A Shiny New Look for Renfrew Company Shop

On Friday 27th February, we were delighted to officially open our freshly revamped Renfrew store – the 13th and final location to step into this exciting new chapter for Company Shop as The Surplus Supermarket.

We're the supermarket that sells surplus.

It’s exactly what it says on the tin - we take surplus goods that would otherwise go to waste and sell them through our stores. Our purpose hasn’t changed, and it remains simple: to reduce waste by redistributing surplus, while helping our members save on their weekly shop.

Our purpose has always been simple: to reduce food waste by redistributing surplus – so, over the past 18 months, we’ve been working behind the scenes to transform all 13 Company Shops across the UK. Getting more surplus in new shapes and sizes brings new challenges for each store, and Renfrew was no exception.

Why change things?

A more organised layout makes it simpler to navigate the shelves, spot great bargains and give perfectly good surplus stock a second home. We wanted our stores to feel welcoming, straightforward and enjoyable to shop in – and with Renfrew’s relaunch complete, that transformation is now rolled out nationwide.

Each store is brighter and easier to browse, with clear new signage and smart electronic shelf labels that help members quickly see the value they’re getting. It’s a bit of a glow-up, yes – but the heart of Company Shop hasn’t changed. We’re still here to help members stretch their budgets while reducing food waste at the same time. A win-win.

Celebrating in style

To mark this final milestone, we brought the community together for a blue ribbon-cutting celebration alongside our members, colleagues and special guest, Alison Taylor MP. It was a lovely way to celebrate not just the new look store, but everything the Renfrew site has achieved since it first opened its doors.

And getting here is now easier than ever. Since the opening of Renfrew Bridge in May 2025, access to the store has improved significantly, helping even more local members shop surplus, save money and support the fight against food waste.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Company Shop celebration without a proper catch-up. The kettle was on, sweet treats were shared, and members stopped to chat with colleagues and one another. There was plenty of reminiscing and reconnecting – exactly the kind of warm, community atmosphere we’re proud to create in our stores.

What's next?

Renfrew may have been the final store to receive its makeover, but this certainly isn’t the end of the journey. We’re always looking at ways to improve the member experience and do even more to tackle food waste. Keep an eye on our socials to see what we’re up to next.
