Spicy mishap, or surplus success?

We recently had some humous (or hummus as it’s also spelt) in stores. The ingredients were slightly miscalculated.

This spicy mishap meant that it couldn’t sold as a normal batch. So, we bought the stock to stop it from going to waste.

THAT’S what made it a surplus product.

There’s a common misunderstanding that surplus items are only things that’ll be out of date very soon.  The thing is, that’s actually not the case at all.

Whilst we do have some items that are short-dated, surplus stock could also be:

  • Things in the wrong packaging

  • Stock that missed its original delivery date so can’t be put onto shelves

  • Products that weigh less than they should

  • Products that weigh more than they should

  • Bottles, cans and jars that are sticky

  • Trial lines that’ve been discontinued

We get surplus from all sorts of brands and shops.

It might be food. It might be alcoholic drinks. It might be skincare and hand soap. It might be cleaning products and pet food. Surplus products have so many possibilities, and each one is a new opportunity for us to reduce food waste, whilst helping you save money.

What's not to love about that?
